Eric Lynn Wright more notably known as his stage name Eazy-E, performed as a solo artist but also as a member of the legendary rap group N.W.A alongside Dr.Dre., and Ice Cube. Some consider Eazy-E “The Godfather of Gangsta Rap”, he was a high school dropout, turned drug dealer, turned music industry mogul.
In 1988 Eazy along with other members of the N.W.A; Dr.Dre, Ice Cub, DJ Yella, MC Ren and Arabian Prince released one of the most controversial albums in music history appropriately labeled: “Straight Outta Compton”. Shortly after the album’s release Ice Cube left the N.W.A citing his reasoning as internal disputes.
Wright’s musical influences were Ice-T, Redd Foxx, King Tee, Bootsy Collins, Run D.M.C., Richard Pryor, The Egyptian Lover and many more. After the dismantling of the N.W.A and letting Dr.Dre out of his contract Eazy-E and Dr.Dre had a very public and not so pretty feud. Both rapping songs about one another, and Eazy taking shots at Dre and referring to him as a “Cross Dresser”.
He is referred to in most circles as a “rap pioneer” and considered by most as a legend. In January of 1995 Eazy –E was admitted to a Medical Center in Los Angeles, California with what most believed to be a severe case of asthma. Instead he was diagnosed with AIDS. He announced to the world about his condition on March 16, 1995 and began to make amends with Ice Cube and Dr.Dre. On March 26th, 1995 exactly 1 month after he was first diagnosed the legendary rapper died at the young age of 31 due to “Complications from AIDS”. He had 7 children with six different women.
Since his death there have been numerous videos, books and documentaries done on the life of Eazy-E one of the most notable ones in 2002 “The Day Eazy-E Died and Dead and Gone”.
